if Lindor stays as hot as he’s been I believe the Mets have a shot passing the Braves and catching Arizona or San Diego. I’m also thinking JD might go on a run now that the baby is here and the whole pregnancy is over. I’m sure the whole process wasn’t an issue but it’s his first child (I was shocked about that) and now he can just focus on baseball. I’m not saying he had any worries before but having your first kid does come with some jitters. It would also be nice if Pete can somehow lose his allergy to driving guys in with less than two outs especially when they are on third base. If the starting pitching keeps up with what we’ve been getting that’s going to have nothing but positive results too. The pen gives me some worries but Diaz looks to have figured it out. If we can get to him safely we can not only get in but really do some damage. Let’s keep it rolling.

I’m hoping that the Padres do not make it to postseason. I don’t want to face that goddam Musgrove again.

Good point. But not as important to me as Atlanta NOT even making the playoffs.

I mapped out the rotation for the rest of the month. As it stands, assuming everyone just stays on schedule and Blackburn simply replaces Megill next Tuesday, the three pitchers in Atlanta would be Quintana, Severino and Peterson. They could slot Megill in for a game against Toronto, push Blackburn back and then the Atlanta pitchers would be Manaea, Quintana and Severino (and then Manaea would also be slated for the last game of the season).

I'm not sure I want Megill starting another game at the moment, but I guess it depends how important one thinks it is to have Manaea pitch against Atlanta. There are many other ramifications about moving things around.

Either way, out of the 22 games left, Manaea will start 5 of them, Severino and Peterson will each start 4 of them.

We are all waiting for the Atlanta series but I think all roads go through Philly. Seven games (four at home, three away) against a team that would be delighted to ruin the Mets chances.

Anyway, let's take the series against the Reds and go into the road trip feeling good.

I think the Mets need to just keep up the pace. This talk of 12-10 is just not relevant. That’s 500 ball and you don’t win a pennant race by playing 500 down the stretch. One of the other 3 teams would be required to go into a death spiral for the Mets to back in under those circumstances.

The Mets have been the best team in the league for the past 3+ months. I’m not here to start worrying about having to play tough teams. Those teams should worry about having to play us.

I wonder if Stearns is thinking ahead to a Wild Card playoffs series by signing José Azócar. You only need 3 starters which means you can add more bench players so perhaps Azócar will make his first Mets appearance in the playoffs as a pinch-runner.
