I will add: Dom Smith has been a disaster this year and -- oddly -- the fans don't seem to have noticed. For 2021, he can't field, run, hit for average or power. A huge fizzle. And he's the guy who stayed healthy! Figures.
>> Without a healthy deGrom, the Mets are, at best, a de facto, NL-East playoff team with long odds to beat the Milwaukee Brewers. In other words, they are more than one player away from being serious contenders. So it makes little sense why they decided to go halfway in at the deadline, acquiring a rental bat with high risk at the cost of a first round prospect, but without supplementing their pitching staff with serious talent. Either be realistic with deGrom’s health and punt on a season that requires him to be on the mound to be special — or make the necessary moves (massive investments in pitching) to truly give your team a chance to compete, even without him. The Mets did neither. <<
I did not like the Baez trade. However, I believe the Mets were in a delicate situation -- 1st place, Cohen's first year. My take is that they did not go "all in" because they had a fairly accurate take on the team (and, as I speculated earlier, an accurate take on Jake's health regardless of the pre-trade posturing). They didn't trade away Mauricio, Alvarez, Ginn. At the same time, I don't think the organization was in a position to do nothing just in terms of the fan base. So we made the one bad (misguided) trade for Baez, losing Crowe-Armstrong. Wish we didn't do that, but I understand that "doing nothing" was not really an option.
Lindor/Carrasco is the worst trade in Mets Histiry even with what they gave up; Alderson - No Murphy or Turner who both come back to kill sthe Mets. On Turner they didnt like he went out at night; Baez pickup - still dont get it. Cohen did nothing other then bring back ugly black jerseys - clueless. These Mets now owned by another idiot who is also cheap will never win another championship in my lieftime.
This is a little exaggerated, but I understand the emotion behind it. Not a fan of Alderson, the man who tried to trade Wheeler & Flores for Carlos Gomez; who tried to flip Nimmo for Jay Bruce; whose Master Plan for 2021 was to give Bauer a boatload of money. He needs to go. Cohen signed Lindor to the richest contract in baseball. Team payroll is up. He inherited a team with problems and a farm system that had nothing in AA and AAA (thanks to Sandy). It might take 5 years for this organization to build a top tier team. Please let's hope that Alderson is long gone by then. And, Steve, I hope you are still alive to see it! Eat right, exercise daily, get vaccinated.
Yes Jimmy all exercised eveyday, vaccinated and eat heathy but would have to live till im 125 to see them win one and that is questiomable - I'll just take solice in the fact i saw them win in 69 and the best baseball team ever win one in 86. Thats all im getting. With owners like the Mets have there is no hope what so ever - how does the team get the richest guy in the sport and he hires nincumpoops, spends no money and promotes jerseys. Everyone got fooled by Cohen - should have known the guy was a phoney - its just ego owning a team for him.
If Steve Cohen surrounds himself with the right management team, this mess could be cleaned up by 2023. Like you, I saw 1969 and 1986 and I’m staying alive until they win another one. #LFGM
Glad you are optimistic - Cohen told us all he wouldnt hire someone to learn on his dime - what does he do - Keeps basically a rookie manager. Then he hires a rookie GM who is incompentent. To me he is incapable of making any decisions regarding a ML baseball team. If he was worried about spending money his first year then he should have dropped out - Remember he learned from the best - The Wilpons and Alderson was the head then to. Good news - dont have to watch anymore - its Football season !
I think you are being too hard on him. The only clear mistake was hiring Sandy, though I can see the logic of that move in terms of simply getting the owners to sign off on his bid. He stayed within the payroll tax limit for this season, wisely, I think. Springer was the move -- the first move, I thought -- and it was a mistake not to go that route. I'm afraid this is a team that lacks corner outfielders and, well, a true CF. I'd keep Nimmo. We have the next 3B in Baty, but he's a year away. Alvarez is, I hope, ready for 2023 (we know the bat will be there, and DH will help a lot). We'll need an entirely new pitching staff by that time. Losing Rocker really hurt. I'd get a new 2B if possible, revert McNeil to "super sub" status with some OF play. Mets are slowest team in baseball and they can't SLG. They need 3 hits to score a run. Anyway, this season isn't over yet, so I'll shelve those thoughts for now. I don't think ownership was the problem this season. The next move is to put Sandy out to pasture, bring in a real guy, and begin remaking the team. I still consider Steve Cohen an asset and think it's far too soon to be down on him.
Thnaks Jimmy one would think hes not a idiot being a billionaire - but he should have stuck to the finance market - its clear to me at least this was just a toy to buy. He is totally clueless on who to hire thats pretty obvious. Then not to spend any money (Lindor doent count - that was just a show job buying a cheerleader who cant play baseball) is just absurb. Really and we are to believe hes going to spend next year ? This is a franchise that will win nothing with these players, coaches and owners ! They let Joe Girardi walk out the door.

agree re Dom. He’s a huge disappointment and his offensive output is absolutely unacceptable from a (poor fielding) corner outfielder.
What do you think we could get on the trade market for Dom, JD and McNeil? Separate or together.

You’re getting at least one more.
Thanks for saying but not looking good...
