Nice article. Hate to old man-groan, but Saturday and Sunday might be nice during the day, but they are both night games. Saturday and Sunday night games in the same series in April in NY is criminal.

I’m with you 100%. More day games! It only helps me because it’s easier driving back to Connecticut late at night, when I go. But otherwise, I wish ESPN didn’t steal that Sunday game.

I was going to take my kids to a game this weekend until I discovered they were both night games (going with the fellas tonight, though!).

Lopez would be sent down to the minors when Walker is activated on Saturday, so they would still need to cut an additional pitcher such as Sean Reid-Foley to get down to the 26-man limit correct?

Yes, that is right. I forgot that Walker hasn't technically returned to the roster yet. So Sean Reid-Foley is the move on the pitching side.

This one is fabulous! Detail on the roster possibilities is timely and eye opening. One question: why not send Cano to minors? I know he would have to clear waivers, but no one will claim him at his price tag, right? Or, if they did that would be great for Mets. Presume he would,be upset…but that’s life as a non performing elite athlete. If he refuses to go to minors can Mets escape some of salary? I wonder if I’m missing something simple that prevents this option. Thanks again.

Because Cano has more than five years of service time, he can refuse an assignment to the minors and become a free agent once he clears waivers. This is what happened to Pujols when the Angels designated him last summer. He ended up signing with the Dodgers. The Mets would still be on the hook for Cano's salary, but they would gain a small offset if he signed somewhere else for the minimum. I doubt he would look to play in the minors at this point of his career.

Thanks much. I knew I was missing something simple. I still agree with you he’s the guy to go. Paying him for nothing is less bad than paying him to block better results from other players

I am shocked to learn that an absurdly rich man not only collects rare art and owns his favorite baseball team, but also dabbles in horse racing! What a well rounded fella!

I think you are correct about the choices that will be made but it should be Canó who goes | I am not an insider and it never occurred to me that Jacob deGrom was bluffing. Heyman is fabricating a story that has already been told | Megill, Walker, Scherzer and avoiding Wheeler bodes well for the Mets - hope they're ready | The Endy and Colon calls are legendary but "Tears of joy for the 2015 Mets" does it for me. I still get chills from "Five Days in Flushing."

As if we needed more proof that things are completely different in Queens, Cano has been DFA'd.

Great analysis as usual JB. I’m not sure I see significant potential for harm in optioning either Dom or JD. They both need to have the mental/psychological resilience to handle it if they are to ever reach their potential as professional athletes. So the argument can be made that it MIGHT end up being good for them, to overcome this adversity. And in that case, the risk is in NOT optioning them, is it not?

I would just like to see a bit more from Cano, perhaps through June, before I would cut our losses with him. I’d settle for occasional starts at second and the corners where his soft hands should continue to play well, and a success as a pinch hitter. But one of Dom or JD has just got to find their stroke as DH. The question is where will these guys best find it? I’d lean towards Dom playing regularly at Syracuse, JD regularly at DH and reassess in 3-5 weeks. But Luis is a great idea too. I’d just want to know that Dom and JD get regular ABs. Can it happen with both and Cano on the active roster? So far it hasn’t.

The sheer number of HBP is eye-opening, but I don't think this would be an issue if 4 of those HBP weren't in the head region (3 of which actually hit the head/face) and then another one that seems to have actually hurt Davis; enough to where he was at a minimum removed from the game. In my opinion, that's mostly what's driving the anger within the club And in my opinion, it's justified - 4 pitches that either caused injury or were very close from causing catastrophic injury in 20 games is ridiculous.

Are the teams/pitchers that have been hitting them, been hitting other teams they’ve played at the same rate? Really only a select sample of teams/pitchers they’ve faced. And the guys getting hit on the Mets are the usual suspects too, as JB pointed out.
