There are just too many games left for me to care about playoff positioning. At this point, just rack up as many wins as possible so we can pop some champagne.

Agreed. So many permutations. But simplest way is to win the next 8, which includes three games in Atlanta where we would clinch.

Still fun to look at other scenarios. Keep an eye on the Dodgers and Padres heading into their series next week. SD has 3 with the ChiSox after today’s rubber game against Houston. The Dodgers have 5 games: two more in MIA, then home for 3 against CO. If SD picks up a game or 2 on them, that 3 game set in LA is very meaningful for the Dodgers. Perhaps they come out gangbusters and beat SD 3 times. Meanwhile, if AZ keeps close, SD then is playing them for their lives in the final series of the season.

Or, if SD goes on a tear they could catch the Dodgers, which might change everything!

Win today; it'll be nice to have a 2 game cushion going into the Philly series.

Hoping for a Longines and more but a split will suffice with the Phillies. Let’s bury the Nats today and feel good about ourselves.

It was great to see Megill work out of trouble. That’s been his problem. When runners get on, they score. He has the stuff to be successful.

I think Acuña has earned a postseason roster spot.

Earn it or not, they don’t have a choice unless Baty or McNeil heals up.

"resilency" That is the hallmark of the 2024 Mets Team. The "something always happens" syndome is not stopping this steam roller as it has in past years !

Postseason seeding is something to think about. The one team I fear is the Padres. I don’t want to face that goddam Musgrove again. Darvish is tough. And they have a shut down bullpen that shortens games.

But I’ll worry about that when it happens. Good problem to have. If we are facing them in the playoffs, that means Atlanta is probably out, cause we will have had to do pretty good in our series with them next week. And that will be Dayenu.

Could Big Pete be backing up his words? He quietly is 11 for his last 21AB’s with last nights big 5 RBI’s. Should he keep this “hot” streak rolling he will get this team into the playoffs. We all know he can carry this team. One thing telling if he’s heating up was that laser that almost went out to right field last night. Pete used to hit it right field all the time when his average was up in the .280’s and he had great plate coverage. I saw that last night and if that’s the case. Lookout. J.D. has to hit eventually right? I’m also intrigued by Acuna. Has he been dogging it down in AAA because the lights aren’t bright enough? Pumped for next year for sure and will take what he did last night for however long we keep playing that’s for sure. Kid put on a show. Has Alvy figured it out finally? If this team keeps pitching the way it has and gets the bats we are witnessing with Lindor? Whatever he can give coming back? I’d say this team can beat anyone in a series. Let’s get in first and see what everyone has done to get us in first but if last night is some pre-cursor there isn’t anyone who wants to play that team I can guarantee that. I want to temper things a bit though it was Washington. Jesse Plemmons on the mound for them tonite. Bring out the brooms.

Wow! What a night! The Mets win 10-1 & both the Diamondbacks and Padres lose! Which means the Mets are tied for the 2nd Wild Card, 2 games ahead of the Braves for the 3rd Wild Card spot and are only a couple of games back of that coveted 1st Wild Card spot. Just a measly 2 game winning streak for the Mets & a measly 2 game losing streak for the Padres and 1st Wild Card spot here we come. Of course, with 11 games left in the season things can change in a hurry for the Mets and as we Mets fans all too well know, sometimes for the worst.

All due respect to the fine put up narrative, I think the meeting where Pete spoke was held before Monday’s game. He didn’t do much in that game. But he was great last night!

Oh, and also, Manaea went to driveline before the 2023 season, not after.

I hate to be “that guy” but on July 2, Herz went 5.2 against the Mets, gave up 1 run (a Lindor HR) and had 10 K (that was the game the Mets scored 5 in the top of the 10th to win).

Assuming MIL doesn’t pass PHI or LAD (meaning that MIL has to play in the 1st round), yes, the Mets would be (at least on paper and theoretically, I don’t want to anger the Baseball Gods) being the 3d WC if only to avoid traveling to the site of the 1st round matchup. The season ends on Sunday and the first game of the 1st round is on Tuesday so if the Mets finish the regular season in MIL and start the playoffs in MIL they don’t have to travel (as opposed to flying to SD). Even more (and let’s just get in the playoffs but while I’m here) if they can lockdown a playoff spot before the last Sunday they can save Severino (who is scheduled to pitch the last game of the regular season) for Game 1 of the playoffs.
