Love the newsletter and the podcast but if I have to hear Peter defend McNeil one more time I’m out. Show me a stat/metric from the last 2 seasons that says McNeil is about to turn it around. The dude is toast since the shift was banned. Acuna isn’t tearing it up in AAA but if he only hits .250 he’s better than McNeil because he brings better speed and defense.
I didn’t defend McNeil this time! I hear you. I am no longer actively defending him. I would only point out that Acuna is hitting .271 in AAA ball. McNeil hit .368 at AAA before he finally got called up. I don’t see how a guy who’s not tearing up AAA is going to be an improvement at the major league level. The spot is there for him, but it’s going to take more than hitting .290 over a 5-game stretch to earn a spot in the big leagues, regardless of how good his brother is.
The video of the players dancing to OMG was adorable. The vibes are good and the team is fun to root for - nice for a “transition” year. I know it’s not prime degrom/syndergaard … but I feel pretty good going into a wild card series with Senga (god willing), Severino, and Scott with this lineup.
Have done a 180 from, definitely trade Severino and see what you get to, I wonder if he’d be open to a mid-season extension. Also convinced JD could hit .280 for the next 10 years a la Julio Franco.
Hopefully can take a series from the cheatin Astros. LFGM, all hail Grimace.
The only good thing about Marte being out is that when Taylor is playing our RF defense will be much better (and there is less of a chance on a fight occurring on fly ball to RCF). It won't make up for the offense we are missing, but it's definitely an upgrade on the defensive side.
Hopefully there will be more than 1 Mets player selected as a reserve for the ASG. Worthy reps of a selection would be Severino, Alvarez, Nimmo & Lindor. Disappointing that the Mets took so long to get going which hurt the voting of the above mentioned and just imagine what the voting for Alvarez would've looked like if he had not gotten injured. ><Sigh.>
Ken Rosenthal today has Lindor as one of 4 NL SS’s with JDM, Nimmo, and Severino just missing. No mention of Pete and frankly, I wouldn’t mind if he took a few days off instead of trying to win the HR Derby.
I am a big Mets fan, however I don't think any of the guys u mentioned with the exception of possibly Severino deserve consideration. I wud have to take a closer look at all the other pitchers stats to come to a conclusion on that. Alvarez just doesn't have enough at bats unfortunately.

Well, whatever you call what you did, you have to do it again. 3 run HR. Good for Jeff. LGM!
I never agree with Peter on most of his points, and thats fine.
Podcasts are the best !
After you’re finished with the MF podcast, there’s an all-new “National League Town” that is so good Michael Kay says it’s the best in the business!
mmmm ok
Nice podcast today, gents.

I have "OMG" on repeat. Love this energy.

It has to be Lindor. We cannot lose a few innings of Sevy for some stupid ASG.

Not even Lindor? Fangraphs has him 6th in WAR in the whole league.
