Thanks to everyone who responded to our first Mets Fix fan poll. The expectations are definitely high for this season, with nearly 20% of you believing they will win the World Series. I know it’s the time to be optimistic, but how many Mets seasons have had this kind of excitement?
After losing McNeil for Opening Day, let’s find out who you think should take his spot.
By nature, a high-payroll team like the Mets is going to have a roster filled with veterans. The most talented players reach their prime in their late 20s and early 30s. The top free agents require long-term deals. That’s why the depth chart looks the way it does, with most positions cemented in place by an expensive solution.
While it’s a luxury to be able to re-sign your own free agents and steal players from other teams, it can also create stagnation. If everyone is healthy, where is there space for the young players to blossom?
A look at the 2025 depth chart shows plenty of firepower, but also a lack of speed, defense and versatility. Francisco Lindor and Jose Siri (along with Tyrone Taylor) offer help up the middle, but there’s not much surrounding them.
