I really like Iglesias. He is quite versatile and seems to be quite clutch as well. I hope they bring him back next year. Just a quick thought on Soto. While I wud love the Mets to get him, I believe he is going back to the Yankees. However, Cohen's money is going to make them break 2 banks for him :)

One supremely positive thing coming out of this season is David Petersen. I have always believed he could be this pitcher. My question would be is how long was he dealing with that hip problem and who was giving him medical advice to keep pitching through it if this was what was going to be on the other side by him feeling better? That Dr. should have his license revoked. The way he’s pitching pencils him in for #3 easily next year. I’m also for giving Manaea his money and bringing him back. That’s a pretty good top 3 with Senga. I’m sure Sevy wants to come back and I’d be open to it on a short term deal. His injury history scares me still. Nice bounce back by Diaz but he can’t live the rest of the season throwing only fastballs. He needs to get right and fast with that slider. Can’t say anything more on Lindor with what he doing and his importance to the team. MVP in my mind but Ohtani will win because the sports writers fawn over his every at bat. Yes, he’s doing incredible things but not being in the field is a minus to me. He’s also not the leader Francisco is. Surely, I’m biased too but I have Ohtani burnout.

This is starting to feel like ‘99, when they had it, blew it, then got back in at the end. Paging Rick Reed…

I would take that result. Even if Game 6 of that NLCS is the best game/worst loss in my Mets life.

If a field goal kicker misses to key field goals that cost the team two losses and a playoff spot - he is off the team. They are bringing in other FGs kickers the next day. Diaz cost his team a playoff spot - not one twice in the same week. Why would you reward him by putting in another game the very next night ? Makes no sense -

He's doing his job as a manager: showing confidence in his guy. Dumping a closer is vastly different and more complicated than getting rid of a kicker. Not sure how Díaz cost us two playoff spots but it is a team game. They win and lose as a team. (Also, awful about Gaudreau brothers. Stunned.)

Disagree. Season is not over, but it is if Diaz is gone. They need him to pitch great and often. Anything less and it’s over. Put him right back in there like they did and you’ve done your part. He just has to pitch great, like he did last night. No more rest. Final 28 games. He needs to pitch in the majority of them and he needs to be great.

The homer by Alonso was awesome! Just as awesome was the homer by Lindor, which gave the Mets the lead and led to Diaz's successful closing out the game! One thing you have to say for this team is that they never quit or give in until the last out of the game is recorded by the other team. The Mets, by virtue of the win over the Dbacks secured the tie breaker over the Diamondbacks, which is just as important as the Mets securing the tie breaker over the Braves. They are currently tied in the season series with 4 games remaining against each other. That series will resume sometime in the near future but as to this upcoming series against the White Sox the Mets MUST be thinking sweep! That would give them a very successful record of 7-3 on this latest West Coast swing. #LGM #LFGM

One has to wonder exactly why the Giants would release a reliever with a 2.45 ERA while still on the fringes of competing for the 3rd wild card spot. Any insight, J. B., as to why? If the reason (s) the Giants are releasing Rogers don't involve player attitude or discipline problems, then it would make great sense for the Mets to at least look into claiming him off the waiver wire. Who knows, a simple waiver wire transaction such as this might mean the difference between a playoff spot or another non-playoff year.

They are probably hoping someone picks up the $11m for next year too. He's overpaid per the market for a reliever, but if you don't have a budget...

Right—especially with Nunez out. It’s a lot of $ but it’s not our $!

I think they only play 3 times, 9/24, 9/25 and then 9/26 is the makeup from the rainout in April.

Great insight Jeff into the tie breakers! This is why the Mets are by no means out of the playoff hunt, even at 3 games back as of this morning!
