My friend made a great point the other day about the complexity these negotiations: It's not just owners vs. players, it is also owners vs. owners (small vs. big market), and that's what entirely corrupts the enterprise and makes it all feel so hopeless.

And why four owner names might have been leaked, hoping to apply pressure from within. Of course, the timing is impeccable for Mets fans. But Steve Cohen became owner at just about the worst time for CBA negotiations.

The Wilpons were company men, always going along with the program, never rocking the boat. Well behaved for Selig. Cohen scares the other owners, who want to keep a cap on payroll expenses (even as revenues rise).
