Nice of Healey to do an article cheering in Raley. But I think itβs obvious this was his plan, or he never would have had Tommy John surgery. And it makes sense. As a lefty reliever he should be able to find work for a few more years and the earnings will be very significant in the course of his working life. Why not?
This is a series to get excited about. "Let's see what we got." A day game in the Windy City on a Friday. How can you not be romantic about baseball? Let's Go Mets.
Unfortunately for Bret Baty all the great stats at Triple A don't & won't mean a single thing if he can't prove that he can hit MLB pitching the next time he is called up to the big club. At least for right now I see Baty as one of those tweener guys. They definitely can hit Triple A pitching without any problem but, for whatever reason, they can never hit MLB pitching on a consistent basis. There is no doubt that you, I and most all other Mets fans are rooting for Baty to finally prove that he can hit MLB pitching on a regular & consistent basis. It will be up to him to prove that he can the next time he gets called up to the big club but considering Vientos's recent mostly consistent play Baty's next chance might just be his last chance, at least with the Mets.
I like the idea of winning or tying series, going series by series. That was the concept in 2022. I'd like to take 2-3 from Cubs and split Yankees. Avoid bad stretches.
Baty is confounding.
He's a guy who has only played a limited number of AAA games. Maybe he just hasn't had enough under his belt? Feels like his 2024 season with the Mets isn't done yet.
Heβll surely have another shot this year. I guess weβll see. But as we know, minor league success is not a guarantee of major league success. Isnβt this his final option year? Slow launch.

Fangraphs makes it seem that he at least has options for next season as well.
Agree re: series wins. All of the speculation beyond that is exhausting.
So much math.
Baty also played at 2B. Interesting...
Huge series vs the Cubs. LGM!
