Re: Ohtani. Agreed that Ohtani is special when healthy. For my money I’d pursue a trade for Mike Trout. The likelihood of Ohtani pitching again is problematic. But an out field of Nimmo Trout and McNeil gives Mets more much more
Interesting. An outfield of Nimmo, Trout and McNeil would make me drool but Trout is more injury prone than Ohtani. He has constant nagging injuries that have kept him off the field more than he has been on the field (the last 3-5 years?).
Ohtani is a risk but there is no doubt in my mind that if handled properly, Ohtani will pitch again. There is no reason to believe his arm is just going to die and never be used again. He's smart enough to compensate for loss of speed. We know he can hit. We know he can protect Pete and Lindor. I will take a year of Ohtani as DH while he takes his time coming back to pitch. Typing this paragraph made me drool more than an outfield of Nimmo-Trout-McNeil.
We should frame it that way: what makes you drool more?
Do you think it is a huge mistake to pursue Ohtani before locking up Pete Alonso to a long term deal? Or does a pursuit of Ohtani mean that Stearns will trade Alonso mid-season? Wouldn’t we all like to watch Alonso hit his 200th, 300th, 400th, 500th (and beyond) in a Met uniform?
Ohtani is unique. He is Mr. Baseball. Acquiring him would change the trajectory of the New York Mets forever. It would be irresponsible not to go after him with everything Steve Cohen has. Pete can still be retained - Cohen will have enough money.
If so, the other MLB owners will be irritated with Cohen's largesse. Now they are going to have to pay their managers more. (Reminds of when Edie Falco won an Emmy for The Sopranos and thanked her driver in her acceptance speech. Two minutes later, James Gandolfini wins an Emmy and says, "Now I have to thank *my* driver.")
Still hard to believe we are talking baseball smack in the middle of the NFL season LOL. Cohen punted on the season last year "selling we traded for the future". Now to go out and spend a 1/2 billion dollars would go against that plan wouldnt it ?
Re: Craig Counsell and his "big" decision...someone wrote somewhere on social media..."Who does this guy think he is? LeBron?" Which I find hilarious. Maybe we will be treated to an SNY two-hour special detailing Craig's thought process.
Enjoyed the pod. Looking forward to more content.
Love podcast will you be planning to have guests on show once you get more into it ?
Thank you! And yes, we are hoping to have some guests along the way.
Thanks, I really needed this Fix this morning. Anything to distract me from the NY Giants.

Agree with you HUGE Mistake do that. . Sign Alonzo he is a original Met and should be the prioity

I predict the Mets offer Counsell a 5 year deal and 7m per. Contract lines up with Stearns and doubles his AAV.

No thanks on Teoscar. He struck out 211 times last year. He brings value, but I prefer not to witness that on a daily basis.

Wherever he winds up, he played his cards right.
