Now!?! The Mets finally are deciding to stockpile relievers who have options remaining!?! The horse has been out of the barn door for quite awhile now, so why not just continue to leave the barn door open & see what else wanders in. There is no need whatsoever, NONE, to give Adrian Houser another start anytime soon, especially with Peterson & hopefully soon thereafter Tylor Megill coming off the IL. Give Houser some turns in the bullpen and see how effective he is in that role for awhile. I am not in favor of robot umps, not now & not ever! While it is annoying to have a home plate umpire whose strike zone seems to be all over the place (see previous Guardians series) these umpires are graded each and every time and there is a process in place to Relieve the really bad umpires of their duties. If anything, perhaps it is that process that needs to be tightened up a bit. Finally, yes Mr Healy, you are SO correct, Vientos has earned the 3b job, no further discussion needed. Please Mets management, send Baty down to Syracuse and let him start daily at 3b there, where hopefully he can find & refine his stroke. I am not willing to give up on Baty yet, so hopefully a stint at Syracuse will lead to some good things.

Agreed on the robot umpires. The problem is the quality and authority of the umpires. An empowered and competent umpire could get the majority of the calls correct, like they did for 100 years. But instead, in deference to our gambling overlords, the umpires have been enervated to pathetic figures afraid to make a call, and and at once more inclined to go overboard with what power they still possess in overreaction to any glance or shrug of aggravation by a player upset by a close call. They miss an ungodly amount of calls on an infielder throw to first! They don’t move their asses to position themselves. They don’t understand the various rule changes regarding lanes and such. They use the crutch of instant replay and pitch clock. The game is slow because of this.

Yes, and while I know the umps have a union surely there is a way both MLB & the union could agree on some things to make the umpiring much better.

I think Stearns is far advanced in his reliever strategy. In MLB, it's an absolute shitshow. Teams are using 20+ relievers and there are just not enough to go around.

The robot umps will be an improvement. Can't wait. They will also completely eliminate the bogus "framing" statistics. Pitchers will always need good, strong-armed receivers back there.

The problem with Vientos is he's not really a 3B and no one in the know seems to think that he is. I'm in favor of playing him there, but he's not the answer, I don't think. He might be one of those rare primary DH guys, in the mold of Edgar Martinez who can back up 1B.

Only upside to this dreck is cheap tickets. Sitting in section 319 tonight. I’ll say hello to Keith.

The Citi Field as worst place to hit in baseball narrative is dumb. There have been just 24 games there so far. The Mets have scored : 1-6-1-0-3-2-6-7-2-6-3-9-2-4-4-1-4-0-7-2-1-4-4-0

13 games scored 3 or less

5 more games got 4 runs.

Just 6 times scored over 4

Held to 2 runs 4 times

Held to 1 run 4 times

Shutout 3 times!

The run 6-7-2-6-3-9 was during the homestand against KC and Pittsburgh in the midst of the good run. They won 5/6.

This is not CitiFields fault. This is small sample. A small sample of a terrible offensive team.

It is a hilarious excuse in light of various fence-moving renovations since 2009. I am aware of two times that this happened but there may be a third.

Joey Wendle signs with the Braves making him the 3d Mets backup MI to become a Brave this year (Guillorme, Short, Wendle).

sounds like a weird practical joke the Braves are playing

They are taking our DFAs in order to steal our signs, obviously. Every time, we have to change it all over again.

I have two free tickets to tonight’s game - just got back from vacation and I’m not in the mood to go to a game tonight. Two field level seats in right field. For free. Reach out and I’ll send the tickets over ASAP. It would make me feel better if someone used them.

This team should be open for business with every starter on the roster except the kids. Which to me is Alvarez and Scott plus I’m adding Vientos to take over first when Pete gets moved. The rest should all go if possible. I’m aware Lindor is going nowhere but this core isn’t going to win and it’s time to start anew. Soto is the block to build around. He hits well at Citi field and loves NY. Prying him from that short porch at Yankee stadium is gonna be hard plus the Yankees can and will match Uncle Steve’s checkbook. I was going to Memorial Day but gave my tickets away as they also changed the game time from 1 to 4. Stearns better have a bigger plan than what he had in Milwaukee as just getting into the playoffs every year ain’t gonna cut it. Even in Flushing.

Concerning the next WBC, Steve should say: "The New York Mets will not participate in the World Baseball Classic in 2026. We sacrificed the best player in his position to the previous tournament, even though we are paying his salary, and the ramifications of his injury while wearing another uniform are still being felt to this day. In addition, many of our players sat on the bench instead of adequately preparing for the season for which I am paying them to play for the New York Mets. If you insist on their participation I will pay each player $100,000 to make up for the bonus that MLB gives them and also give an additional $100,000 to a charity of the player's choice in their home country."
