Podcast was not monotonous - great stuff even without the back and forth.
Lindor needs to be announced as captain next spring training … maybe the same day they announce they’re retiring Wright’s jersey for the baseball romantics
It was worth staying up late to watch Lindor during the somewhat nerve-wracking 9th inning- in between pitches he kept encouraging Brazobán to throw strikes, to keep his focus, that “he could do this!) He was very intense, a true leader. And then I loved how after the 3rd out how the players surrounded Brazoban to give him a group hug. Love this team.
Thought the very same thing, Liz. Was watching on my phone with volume off as the DNC was on the TV (we recorded - West Coasters). Lindor led the team to almost will that man into getting through that inning. It was something to watch. I had read Passat’s article yesterday after someone posted it in the group chat, and it was fresh in my mind. Blake excerpted much of its gist ( it’s a very long piece). He’s a special leader. He’s really found something inside himself this season. Fun to watch it happen!
I must have been focusing on the upcoming football season. I thought yesterday was a off day. Didnt realize till i woke up they played a game last night LOL. " California Dreaming ...". Nice insight on Lindor - i readily admit i wasnt a big fan of him. Took a couple of years but now seeing the value he brings. Hes a good guy and esxcellent basbeall player. You can ride guys like that to a championship.
It’s fine. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. He’s not a guy who can do it in this higher pressure setting. Move on before he causes more damage. Gotta say, Ottavino, Stanek, and Garrett, all giving us the jitters too often, all have more of a track record of gritting through tough situations: Garrett this year, Ottavino for many years, and Stanek (so I’m told) for many years as well. I feel more comfortable with their chances in a big spot.
Braz has options and Mets retain control for next few years. A good live arm to have in the system. But time for him to go down and for Nunez to come up.
Or send him down before anyone notices how bad he was, then trade him. He’s 32, btw. Just got to the majors last year and didn’t make the squad out of spring training this year. I think maybe the expectation of how big an acquisition he was was a tad overblown.
We got him for nothing, there's really no trade value there. He'll be a useful arm in the future, teams go through 20+ relievers a season. And he's experienced MLB success. He was a solid acquisition. Maybe helps down the line. But, also, yes: overblown.
It could be that this season is playing out to a best-case scenario where the Mets can sign Alonso to a reasonable, fair contract. Not the contract he wanted, but one that the market determines.
Who is going beyond four years with Pete?
So the Mets can smile and say, hey, Pete, we love you here, so we're willing to go 5 YEARS at $150.
An overpay but not the end of the world.
It's just hard to see what team out there would pay more for Alonso? If the Yankees sign Soto, they can't afford Pete. If they want to flip that, okay, we'll take Soto. The Cubs have a rookie 1B who is already putting up comparable numbers. Houston? Maybe a challenge.
I think we can get it done without it becoming stupid money. And if another (dumb) team offers 7 years, then we have to let him walk.
The key is to determine that Vientos sticks at 3B, that's where he gives us maximum value. If down the road somebody needs to move to DH, so be it. But filling the 3B spot is not an easy thing to do (historically, we know that). Keep Vientos at 3B, retain Pete at 1B, and that's 60-70 home runs.
“renowned ear-rubber”—excellent.

Same here
Lindor is a wonderful leader. He is delivering another great season and such a positive influence on the team.
Once Nunez comes back today. Could Brazoban be sent down? Doesn’t he have options?
Yes he does and could.
I guess this is karma. Mets traded Robertson to marlins and struggled so marlins returning favor with brazoban.

One more random comment, re: Alonso.

You know, without Tatis, the Mets are better than the Padres (a very good team).
And we're better than the Braves when they are without Strider and Albies and Acuna and Reilly, etc!
Just a matter of getting it done.
