Here’s a Nitpick that may not be necessary on this special morning, but bear with me:

Why did Buck move Dom to first base and McCann into Pete’s spot in the batting order, and then also take out Canha so that Jankowski could stay in the game in left? We at once lost our top slugger, who was due to lead off the next inning if it came to that, and put the pitcher into the batting order due up fourth. Could you imagine if Diaz let up one run and we went to extra innings? Its hardly a guarantee that a one run lead is safe in the ninth inning! So Lindor would be on second, and instead of Alonso up, McCann would be up. As the fourth batter of the inning, Guillorme would be our only available pinch hitter. I realize Dom is the better fielder at first, but doesn’t that again beg the question about why is he the DH in the lineup when he plays? And Jankowski may be a better fielder than Canha, but Canha’s no slouch out there either.

Again, just my nitpick. But I only thought about this when I heard Buck answer a post game interview question about his feelings during the rally by saying he had to start thinking about who to warm up, who to sub in, etc. So this was his plan.

Anything to avoid Keith’s wrath at lousy hitting! Wow, I moved to Ozark and then bed. Starting to feel pretty damn magical!

Awesome win. 1) I really hate the Phillies and; 2) Boy, the Mets really dodged a bullet when they didn't hire Joyless Joe Giardi. I sure wish Gary Apple would stop insisting on talking about Lindor as a "leader." It's such a failed, lazy, broken narrative. He's a terrific player and the Mets are much better when he plays well, but he's about as far from a leader as they come. He's just a player & really is one of the worst interviews on the game, rarely has anything interesting to say. After the game, listen to Lindor's comments and compare them to Nimmo's. It's night & day. Not saying that Nimmo is a leader, either, just that he makes sense, talks coherently, makes valid points, understands what's happening around him. The car thing w/ McNeil is super dumb.

I admit it but I had the Mets on "last channel.” Saw the Rangers seal the win and turned back to SNY for the improbable top of the ninth. The only thing I missed was the Lindor home run and at that point all I thought was: does this make up for his error a game habit? I do not want to carp but Lindor cannot continue at this pace. He needs to work on timing and rushing the ball and stronger throws. I guess I am carping. I do like his car challenge to McNeil for the batting title. Anyway, the Phillies are still a very dangerous team but it must be somewhat daunting for them to prepare face Scherzer, Bassitt and Carrasco. (I wish I could stay up to watch Shohei Ohtani do Ruthian things.) (I prefer Howie's calls.)
