JB, good suggestion in podcast re: roster moves and the idea of convincing a serviceable player to go to the minors (listen to the podcast for the specifics). That is a possibility, especially if the organization is candid and keeps their word. It seems to me the Mets keep their word now. I mean, Atlanta does not get its youngins' to sign early based upon wishin' and hopin'. Hopefully the Mets can create that type of trust in their own way.

Yes, that might be helpful!

High praise from JD Martinez about the post-Lopez glove throw game (5/29) meeting. Lindor, Marte and Nimmo were the energy behind the meeting. I am particularly impressed with Lindor. He has really stepped up as a presence and leader in the room. This is the Francisco Lindor that got us excited in the first place. I like him a lot and it took me this long to truly appreciate him. He’s my captain.

One game at a time and do not look too far ahead. Let’s Go Mets!

I wish April baseball was warmer. Until every stadium has a retractable roof, maybe MLB can figure out a way to play games in So Cal, Florida, AZ and even Mexico for the early cold months.

Right, but MLB tried it, I think in the late ‘80s, and some east coast teams complained that their Opening Day lost it’s luster after going 4 and 8 on the road.

Sorry my comment got somehow deleted. He is a leader sure his contract is big but that is going rate for SS. I wished he wasn’t historically a slower starter

I missed most of the game yesterday; 50% of the batters I saw included a walk-off HR. I like that ratio.

Having a roster with a DH-only does limit it's construction, but having a very good hitter in the DH spot on a nightly basis is a good thing overall.

The best Mets lineup now features 7 players with an OPS+ over 105. Add Alvarez to that mix (this does not include anyone at 2B) and maybe it's not a complete black hole after all.

Re: the comment from the podcast about not competing w/ the best teams in the playoffs - the Mets absolutely will not compete on paper; but there is so much history about how that usually doesn't matter in a short series. I am of the firm believe that if there is a playoff spot to be had realistically, you don't throw it away. We will have a much better idea what direction they should go in in about a month and a week.

I expected the team to go around .500. A 78 win season is quite possible from here. The split in the Phils series was big. It shows they can win against good teams. Yesterday showed they can win late.

The team has a winning streak in them. Once they hover around .500, they can think bigger.

How about signing Sevy to a two-year deal instead of trading him for a prospect?

He can pitch in NY. Someone needs to pitch. I remember saying that about Stroman…

He also seems to want to be in NY. I am definitely of the mind that they should at least explore an extension before they consider a trade.

Snagged aisle seats in section 125, row 10 for $34 and got a walk off. Not a bad night. Question: I think it was the 7th, runners on second and third, no outs and Pete up. Count was 3-0. I thought he should 100% have green light. No force outs. Worst scenario is an out and good chance that out is a sac fly. Best scenario Pete crushes an obvious fastball down the middle and maybe remembers that he knows how to hit. Did the booth have anything to say? I’m guessing Keith wanted him to swing. What say you Mets-Fixers? Long live the Grimmace era!

You finally got a win this season!

I wasn't watching but there is a 100% chance Keith wanted him to swing in that scenario.

I was listening to the radio broadcast as I usually do. Howie mentioned it and sad Alonso should not have taken the 3-0 pitch alonso did take and that pitch was center cut.< Sigh >

He didn't look like he was in super swing mode, but the strike was right on the inside corner per the MLB app. Not one that would have been an obvious 3-0 swing pitch.

Not according to what Howie & Keith said on the radio broadcast. They both said that the 3-0 pitch was center cut for him. However, I will go with what you say as to where the pitch was located. Either way, as someone said, it did not appear that Pete was in a "super swing" mode. Which makes me think that the order not to swing came from the bench.Same thing ohappened on the next batter who got to 3-0. Didn't swing on the 3-0 pitch. Every so often a batter needs to swing at a 3-0 pitch, especially with the bases loaded or else when the P knows you are not going to be swinging on 3-0 he will lay that pitch right down the middle as was done at least a cou ple of times in the game.

It just seems like he takes the strikes and swings at the balls. All season long. I used to be concerned he has no 2-strike approach, but I do think he has a 1-strike approach.

I was too busy typing in the chat that it would be nice if he hit a big game changing homerun for once, since I can’t remember the last time he came up big in a clutch situation like that. Alas.

That game last year where he and Alvy hit homers to tie and win. I know, bc I left Citi top 9 and missed it.

Expand full comment

he did have the tying HR v the Tigers in our first win of this season as well

i went back and watched the pitches around the 3-0 pitch and there was no mention of a green light, but Keith didn't say much during that phase as Gary was kind of laying out the situation, etc.

Yep. But I had to be reminded of it, because I couldn’t remember. Not my fault. It’s too long ago. Pete’s fault.
