Meaningless = to fans of MLB. I don’t really care what it means to the players, or, if I’m being honest, to the fans in the stadium last night. None of them are paying my cable bill for the privilege of watching a team that just got worse overnight. Diaz’s salary is guaranteed. We’re the losers here.

With so many pitchers opting out of the WBC because of this very possibility of injury, why would the Mets not do everything in their power to stop Diaz from endangering their $100 mill commitment? Hard not to feel like the Wilpon Mets this morning.

I have been saying this for years - the WBC is f***ng USLESS. How stupid is this - celebrating a meaningless sandlot game aand now out for the year - potentially derailing the whole Mets season. This is about Diaz being selfish, not careing about your team, let alone us fans ! Diaz is a joke and always will be !

I have to disagree about Diaz, Steve. I do not think Diaz is a joke and I'm not sure this was about him being selfish. It is difficult to determine from the video what exactly happened. It seems as if a few players surround him, starting jumping up and down and Diaz seemed to go down like he took a bullet to the knee.

Its ok to disagree - but this guy needed to go to the dugout. Or Why did he bother to pitch in this usless little league ? All of that is not thinking of the team, the owners investment or the fans. Nimmo didnt go cause of those reasons. To tell you the truth if I never seen Diaz in a Mets outift again i will be estatic.

Yes, you can be hurt playing baseball if you're wearing a Mets uniform or a WBC uniform. You can get hurt when being chased by a wild boar or in a Miami taxi. The difference is that these are Mets employees who were acting for another entity outside of the Mets control with a different goal than the Mets have. Maybe Raley would have had that injury at PSL or maybe he was throwing just a little bit harder to impress his new coaches. Maybe Quintana was "amped up" and trying too hard for March. As you said, Diaz definitely would not have been injured in a post-game celebration of a spring training game. Pete is now slumping, Jeff isn't playing and neither is properly getting ready for the season. Screw the WBC.

It is starting to sound like Diaz will be out for the year. If this indeed the case, who is on the hook for his salary for the year? Mets? WBC Or Team PR?

Losing Diaz is going to hurt but it is a long season. There are still seven months of actual play to determine what happens. The Mets have been trying to reload their minor league coffers and I know they are still playing catch-up with most of the league. Who knows who will emerge in the system to help? Of course I am frustrated by Diaz's injury but he will likely not be there for those seven months. #LFGM

Will Billy consider trading a top prospect for a RP? Say, Mauricio for Alexis Diaz?
