☀️ Good Morning:

There’s a reason the Mets are 24–14, and it’s not because they have been clicking on all cylinders for the first six weeks of the season.

In fact, plenty has gone wrong, including injuries. And some mediocre play has crept into the results over the past week or so.

The Mets are sitting atop the National League East on the strength of two long winning streaks: a six-gamer to start April, followed by a seven-gamer 10 days later.

The top teams in baseball build their impressive records by extending winning streaks and avoiding long losing streaks.

After losing four of five before heading to Arizona, it started to feel like a losing streak was coming, but Carlos Mendoza’s group refused to let that happen, taking two of three from the Diamondbacks, helped by an ace-like performance from Kodai Senga and a power surge from their new superstar Juan Soto in the getaway game.

🤩 There’s our superstar

Juan Soto is starting to look like the Juan Soto the Mets signed to a record-breaking contract.

His two home runs on Wednesday were plenty enough for a pitching staff that battled through heavy traffic to allow only one earned run.

Soto is hitting .346/.455/.885 over his last seven games, with four home runs.

His 143 wRC+ ranks second on the team behind Pete Alonso. It’s not the 180 mark he reached last season, but believe it or not, it’s drawing close to his 158 wRC+ career average.

The latest FanGraphs projections have him finishing his debut campaign in Queens with 32 home runs and 89 RBIs, while batting .274/.418/.511. A slight dip from his norms, but far from the drop off some Mets fans have almost come to expect from a star playing their first season on their favorite team.

👈 OPPO POWER: Impressively, Soto sent his second long shot of the day over the left-field fence.

Playing away from the friendly dimensions of Yankee Stadium, we are seeing Soto distribute his hits more evenly. He has sent more balls the opposite way this season than he has since early in his career with the Nationals.
