Qualifying Offers
Morning Dose: Friday, November 7
☀️ Good Morning:
The gun has sounded and front offices are jockeying for initial position heading into the offseason.
The Mets made several minor roster moves, hired a new third base coach and extended a qualifying offer to Edwin Díaz. Meanwhile, there’s an unexpected reliever hitting the market and we learned who else received qualifying offers around the league.

⏰ Happening now: 13 players received qualifying offers ahead of free agency, including the aforementioned Edwin Díaz. The other players are:
Kyle Tucker
Kyle Schwarber
Bo Bichette
Framber Valdez
Dylan Cease
Ranger Suárez
Zac Gallen
Brandon Woodruff
Shota Imanaga
Michael King
Gleyber Torres
Trent Grisham
The 2026 qualifying offer is valued at $22.025 million. Each player has until November 18 to decide whether to accept that salary on a one-year deal or advance to free agency.
💳 Compensation: By extending a QO to Díaz, the Mets help themselves in two ways:
They would receive draft compensation if he signs somewhere else. As a competitive-balance-tax-payor, they would receive a draft pick after the fourth round of the 2026 draft.
They impact his market demand by attaching the threat of that compensation.
⏎ ON THE FLIP SIDE, the Mets risk losing their second- and fifth-round picks plus $1 million in international bonus pool money if they sign any of the players above (excluding Díaz, of course).
