☀️ GOOD MORNING:

24 hours from now we could feel worse about this team, somewhat better, or about the same. You come to this newsletter for this earth-shattering analysis.

✌️ Let’s Play Two: After rain washed away the series opener, the Mets and Brewers will play a split doubleheader on Wednesday. For a club on desperate straits, a doubleheader offers the opportunity to turn the tide with two quick wins, while also threatening the opposite. I can only imagine the comments in the chat if today looks like it did over the weekend.

The Amazins will send Clay Holmes to the mound against Freddy Peralta in the first game at 1:10 pm, and most likely leave Blade Tidwell to try to fend for himself against upstart Jacob Misiorowski (3–0, 1.13) in the nightcap (7:10 pm).

If not Tidwell, perhaps the front office will surprise everyone by promoting one of the kids.

📉 Falling Back: As bad as things have been for the Mets, the Braves continue to have a nightmare season. On a day they confirmed Chris Sale will remain sidelined until the second half of August by transferring him to the 60-day IL, they were shutout for the third time in their past five games. They find themselves in fourth place behind the Marlins.

⚾️ GETTING CLOSER: Perhaps the most important player in the organization right now, Sean Manaea, was scheduled to pitch in a rehab game for Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday, throwing in front of Jesse Winker. The game was rained out and rescheduled as part of a doubleheader today. Manaea is expected to throw 45-50 pitches in what could be his final tune-up before joining the rotation. Obviously, he will need some time, even in the majors, to fully ramp up.
