☀️ Good Morning:

We are at a maximum of one week away from the official offseason beginning.

The darkest month on the baseball calendar for a team that doesn’t make the postseason is October. We’ve had some coaching news, but the mechanics of the offseason will not kick into gear until one day after the World Series, when players with six or more years of service time become free agents.

Of course, we will have you covered with everything you need to know throughout the Hot Stove season.

🕰️ Happening now: Assistant pitching coach Desi Druschel is heading back to the Bronx. Druschel joined the Mets last offseason after spending three years in a similar role with the Yankees. He switches back across town after the Mets cleaned house below manager Carlos Mendoza, relieving pitching coach Jeremy Hefner of his duties.

Why? It makes sense for Druschel to return to the Yankees where he previously worked with Yankees pitching coach Matt Blake. The Mets have hired Kai Correa as bench coach and Jeff Albert the team’s new director of major-league hitting director, but it’s unclear which direction they will turn for the pitching staff.

Big loss? Some have credited Druschel for his work to improve Griffin Canning and turn Clay Holmes into an effective starter. Perhaps that’s why he wasn’t included in the firings after the season. In the end, it was tough to expect him to stick around under a new staff.

The Toronto Blue Jays finished with the best record in the American League and are tied in the World Series in large part because of a lineup that bullies opposing pitchers not named Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
