☀️ Good Morning:

Has everyone caught their breath from the past week?

Have we reoriented are expectations for 2026?

What a wild ride this offseason has been.

I will try to process the moves more fully myself while coaching (and chasing around) a 12U hockey team at a ski resort that happens to be the host of our tournament. The actual high temperature on Saturday is forecast to be -12. Don’t ask what it is with the wind chill. Good thing we will be playing in a warmer indoor rink.

Meanwhile, Carson Benge is already in Port St. Lucie to prepare for the season.

It was another busy day in Mets Land, so let’s get right into it.

⇢ THE DAY AFTER

David Stearns was beaming a day after introducing Bo Bichette and acquiring Freddy Peralta. After weeks of hinting at moves to come, he could finally talk about the work he has done in meeting with the media on Thursday.

Naturally, he was asked about the possibility of extending Peralta:

“I’m not going to speculate on that on Day 1 here,” Stearns said. “We’ll let Freddy get acclimated to the organization, and any conversations that we may have or have in the future, I think we’re going to do our best to keep private.”

The 29-year-old right-hander is owed $8 million in the final year of a seven-year extension he received from Stearns back in Milwaukee.

🙋 More from Stearns…
